With infrastructure destroyed by war and damaged water and sanitation systems, diseases such as typhoid, cholera and dysentery have spread with great ease, and hospitals must cope with scarcely available basic medicines and supplies.
Islamis Relief in Iraq
Islamic Relief began working in Iraq in 1997, supplying hospitals with medical equipment to help them cope with leukemia and other diseases. We also distribute food in Ramadan and Qurbani, helping thousands of Iraqi families and supporting orphans through our one-on-one sponsorship programs.
As we were already present in Iraq before the most recent conflict started, we were one of the few aid organizations that stayed and helped Iraqis during the conflict. As well as immediate assistance, emergency food distribution and sanitary teams, we also rebuilt several schools and health centers that had been seriously damaged.
