In addition to this, many men died during the conflict, leaving widowed women fighting for their families in a situation of extreme vulnerability.
Islamic Relief in Kosovo
We started work and reconstruction in Kosovo in 1999, with the aim of helping families to become self-sufficient and return to normalcy.
Our initial intervention was the reconstruction of houses, schools and basic infrastructure, as well as main roads and the distribution of medicines and food during Ramadan and Qurbani. We also support orphans through our sponsorship programs and run microfinance programs that give small, interest-free loans to single mothers, making it easier for them to start their own business and thus obtain a long-term support for themselves and their children.
This program continues to be a success for many families as a way out of poverty, and so when the loan has already been repaid, the money is given to another family and so on.
